![]() ![]() These can make a huge difference to success and make the game much more satisfying too. Everything is gradually built up ensuring that players understand how to do everything before they're tested much.Īs players acquire more money by successfully completing each level, upgrades become purchasable with up to 200 in all. Fortunately, Supermarket Mania 2 has been designed in a way that means nothing is intimidating. Different customers also come along with different expectations and demands. The shop needs maintaining too with the competition coming in to trash machines sometimes, as well as the shop floor getting filthy and needing to be cleaned up. This is all mostly a matter of simply combining items but it's a heady combination ensuring that there's always something that needs doing. Players will quickly find themselves needing to make milkshakes, croissants, coffee and eventually pizza. This isn't just a matter of filling up the trolley and stocking shelves as the supermarket sells much more than that. At the start of each level, players get a quick moment to set up shop. The early levels ably guide players through the basics. ![]() This is mostly thanks to not being solely based around shelf stacking. It'd be easy to wonder just how enjoyable shelf stacking could be in a game (and believe me, it's not fun in real life!) but Supermarket Mania 2 makes a great game out of it. There's a loose story involving Nikki and her friends in their quest to control the best supermarket chain ever, all explained via colorful comic strips. In terms of value for money there's certainly a lot here. Players must work their way through 80 different levels covering 6 different settings. This ensures that it feels as fully fledged as the PC version rather than being a cut down version. Supermarket Mania 2 mixes up the concept enough that it feels like a more fleshed out game that requires more thought than many other games in the genre. ![]() The casual time management genre is an addictive one, even for those players who don't want to admit it. Perhaps more troubling is the overall structure of the gameplay, which can begin getting wearisome about halfway through the story mode.Price: FREE (with $6.99 in-app purchase to acquire full game) ![]() The visuals in Supermarket Mania are charming 2D sprites, though I'm less enthused with the amateur-looking comic panels. With the money earned from happy customers, Nikki purchases upgrades for the stores, like higher quality food items, a gumball machine (for impulse buyers!) and a better supply cart. And as different levels often have special circumstances in place - like an abundance of trouble-making teenagers - players must adapt to the situations at hand and keep those shelves brimming with delicious noms. Customers often leave trash on the floor which must be picked up and then placed in the garbage can. There are a number of other tasks Nikki can do during this mad rush. You'll anger that customer if you don't stock the item in that time. If a customer wants a particular item and it's unavailable, they wait in front of the shelf and a timer starts to count down. After stocking approximately five shelves (this number changes with cart upgrades), Nikki must run to the back of the store and stock her supply cart in order to continue with shelving. Players can queue up a number of actions and Nikki will tackle them in that order. Touching a shelf, for example, will order Nikki to move to that shelf and fill it up with her own supply cart. At the start of a level, all of the shelves in the store will be empty and it's up to Nikki to keep them stocked as customers come through and snag items for their cart. In Supermarket Mania, players simply touch a destination point/task for Nikki. You're going to be playing it for the challenge of time management.Ĭlean up on aisle five. I've seen worse, but you're not going to be playing Supermarket Mania for the gripping story. This story (which is totally inconsequential, if you couldn't tell) is told through some fairly unimpressive comic strips. Clarence - who owns a small, local shop - recruits the two girls and their supermarket adventures truly begin. Unfortunately for Nikki, Torg decides to employ robots instead of ineffective, lazy humans, so Nikki and her cashier friend soon find themselves looking for a job. In Supermarket Mania, players fill the passionate boots of Nikki, a bubbly young girl that starts off working for the Torg Corporation and their insidious chain of supermarkets. ![]()
